7 Tips to get more streams on Spotify as an independent artist

Spotify is the world largest music streaming platform with more than 350 million users and 150 million subscribers. Artists should more focus on this platform as they got a large audience, this will help to build a good fan base. There are many strategies which is sued by Spotify to take the music for the proper fan base. Playlisting can be known as one of the main strategy from that. There are three main types of playlists and this article will give you an idea how to get on through those playlists and some other strategies to grow your numbers in Spotify.

1. Pitch your song through Spotify for artist

Getting into playlists can be known as the main way to increase your stream count on spotify. There are many types of playlists such as algorithmic, Editorial and listener made playlists. You have a chance get into editorial playlists which are created by spotify by pitching your music through spotify or artist. There are 2 main requirements to do that,

·        You should claim your Spotify for artist account

·        You should submit your song through distributor at least 4 weeks before the release date. (This will be changed according to the time that your distributor will take to review and approve your song. If they take 1 week to approve it, submit your song before 5 weeks for your release date).

Submitting your song around 2 months before the release date is highly recommended. More time you give Spotify to review your song, more chance to get to be featured on editorial playlists.

After your song is approved by your distributor, it will be showing in your Spotify for artist account under upcoming music (this will be visible few days after your distributor approve your song and deliver it). There you can find the pitch option. Fill the information and pitch the song around 4 weeks before the release date.

1.      2. Collaborate with different artists in your genre/style

T    This can be known as another important way to increase your stream count and followers on Spotify. If you are not much popular, collaborate with an artist who has more a fan base than you.

Make sure to make that artist a primary artist of your song. When you add them as primary artist, Spotify will push your song for the fan base of that artist through notifications. If that artist is highly noted for the Spotify algorithm, Spotify algorithm will push your song through algorithmic playlists as well.

Not only through Spotify platform, by doing collaborations you share your song through social medias of the collaborated artist. This is a good strategy to attract some fans of that artist to follow you and stream your music.

1.   3. Try to contact Spotify curators

Curators are the listeners who make Spotify playlist, these playlists are also called listener made playlists. Try to contact these curators through social media and get your song into their playlists. They have many ways which they promote your music, some do it for free and some do it for payments. Even if they provide you a paid service, it still worth if they have a good active fan base. This will help you to reach for a large audience and if the listeners like your music they will follow you.

4. Create your own Spotify playlist

This might be a bit hard way, but still you can try this. Try to make your own Spotify playlist with good songs and get more followers for it. 5. Listen your songs as much as possible

Most of the artists have the mp3 version of their song in their mobile devices and they don’t stream them through Spotify. You should stream your songs as much as possible to get notified by the Spotify algorithm. Spotify will notice the number of active listeners for your song. If they are good enough, Spotify will push your songs through algorithmic playlist.

6.  Don’t use bots or any unethical way to increase your stream count

This is a main mistake which independent/new artists do when they don’t get a satisfied stream count. By using bot services Spotify will get noticed that they are not real listeners and they will not push your songs through algorithm. Bot services are made to increase the number of streams they do not listen to your song for real, they stream it for around 15 seconds and your song will be skipped. This will increase the skip rate of your song, which notify Spotify that listeners are not interested towards your music. When your skip rate is high, there is a less chance for you to come forward with Spotify algorithm or to get featured on editorial playlists.

7.  Share on social media

This is another way which you can increase your stream count. Getting more listeners from external sources will help you to come forward with the spotify algorithm. Share your music as soon as it got released on Spotify. First 6 hours is very important, and if you get a good number of streams during first 6 hours you have a high change to get added on editorial and algorithmic playlists. Do a good marketing campaign to get more listeners from external sources to your song as this will help to push your music through algorithm as well.
